Admit it.  We have all shopped online, found the products we want, added them to the cart and then hit a wall.  We have to stop mid-process to enter in payment information, or worst case scenario, create a new user account, slowing us down from receiving our confirmation number and then continuing on with our busy lives.  Fortunately, American Express has partnered with a few companies to eliminate that process with a new initiative called Amex Express Checkout.   Additionally, if you make a purchase through one of these merchant’s, you can also receive a $10 statement credit per merchant between now and Sept 7, 2015.

Here’s how the simple process work:  Visit a participating merchant, shop, head to checkout, select Amex Express Checkout, sign-in with your Amex log-in, and complete the transaction.  And for most of the merchants, it is really simple.  Either it has the Checkout logo once you enter the checkout section, or select guest checkout before you see the Checkout logo.  However, I just happened to make a purchase from Burberry, and their checkout is a bit more convoluted that it should be.  But this is how you navigate it.

After you’re finished shopping and are ready to checkout, click the “Checkout” button in your cart and you’ll be brought here.

After making any last minute changes to your cart, select the button “Next Step”.  You’ll then be brought to this page.

Express Checkout 2
You have to enter your email in here.  There’s no continuing without an email address.  Make one up if you want, I suppose, but there has to be an email address before continuing.  Then you come to this page.

Express Checkout 3
It now asks for your shipping address, or if you want, you can pick it up in a local store if you have one.  Again, mandatory before continuing. Then you finally get to the payment screen.

Express Checkout 4
Just select the American Express option and then you’ll see the Express Checkout logo.  Click on that and a window will pop-up for you to sign-in using your American Express ID and password.  It will ask you to select the card you want to use to make a payment, and the rest is a breezy couple of clicks and then you’re through.  Unfortunately you have to jump a few hurdles, but still less than NOT using Amex Express Checkout.

Here is a list of participating merchants:
